Keep your truck drivers and other road users safe with safe driving practice

Keeping your fleet of truck drivers safe on the road means ensuring that a number of vital things are incorporated into your Florida business structure. You’ll need to have good commercial auto insurance in place to cover you financially if there are accidents. More than that though, you need to make sure your drivers are responsible on the roads, and aware of other road users – particularly on long haul trips.

Many accidents involving trucks and cars care caused due to the increased stopping space required to bring a truck to a halt or maneuver out of the way. Many drivers in cars may not be particularly aware of this, and cut in or brake suddenly, unaware that they are putting themselves, the truck driver and anyone else in the vicinity in danger. Your truck drivers need to be alert to this and maintain a safe buffer between their vehicles and others around them.

Fatigue is the other killer on the roads. While it is important that your goods make their destination on time, that shouldn’t be at the risk of your drivers or other people around them. Build allowances for reasonable breaks into your schedules and make sure your drivers adhere to them.

You have to have commercial vehicle coverage, but you really don’t want to have to use it. It is far better to fund ongoing driver training than relying on your insurance to cover the financial costs of accidents. Your insurance can’t bring back lives lost on the road.
