Technology Tuesday: New Kindle Paperwhite & More

Category: Blog

Who doesn’t love a good book? Here at BB Insurance Marketing, we endorse any form of reading. Whether it’s curling up with your favorite hardcover or paperback, or using the newest form of tablet or e-reader, reading is fundamental and enjoyable. The Amazon Kindle was a breakthrough in reading technology, and allowed users to download books online and keep them on a handheld tablet for use at anytime. Except in the dark! Lamps or clip-on book lights were required for night time or dark setting reading, which is when a majority of users liked to read. Enter the brand new Kindle Paperwhite, the first Amazon e-reader with a glow in the dark screen!

The Kindle Paperwhite now has an adjustable glow in the dark screen with settings for areas with dark light settings (such as in bed or dark planes or cars) or bright light settings (places that are outside or any daytime activities). The Paperwhite is thin, light and can fit in the palm of your hand. Another cool feature with the Paperwhite is it clocks your reading speed and can tell you how much longer it will take to finish each chapter or the rest of the book. Amazon has also removed all external buttons, to give it a sharp and full touch screen feel. The Paperwhite also has 28 hours of reading time on the battery and can hold about 1,100 books.

The Paperwhite retails at $119 dollars for the standard wireless version. There is also a $179 dollar version that has wireless and 3G service, so you can download books anywhere. The only real con that the Paperwhite has is that the screen comes pre-loaded with advertisements, so you’re going to have to cough up $20 bucks to get rid of them. The Paperwhite was released yesterday and they are flying off the shelves. If you are looking for one as a holiday gift, you better act fast!
