Hurricane Wilma: 7 Years Later

Category: Blog

Seven Years ago in October, Hurricane Wilma tore through South Florida leaving 6 million people without power and causing $600,000,000 dollars in damage. BB Insurance Marketing’s Davie office also suffered significant damage. We were left with damage to our phones, switchboards, internet, roofs, electricity and air conditioning. This damage left our office unusable for two weeks! Click below to see how BBIMI overcame the destruction left by Hurricane Wilma and managed to stay fully operational, despite a damaged office.

Armed with the power from two generators, an internet capable phone line, some cell phones and fax machine, BB Insurance Marketing set up shop in our President Jason Brown’s house and implemented a remote emergency claims center. From Jason’s house, our staff (with makeshift workstations all throughout Jason’s living room and kitchen) was able to accept and file over 900 claims for our customers. With most insurance companies taking weeks to respond, our makeshift office was able to process the claims within 24 hours, thus proving our dedication to our very loyal customer base.

Fast forward to present day, South Florida is still victim to terrible storms. There is currently a hurricane (Sandy) off of our Eastern coast as we speak. Even though back in 2005 Wilma was a devastating inconvenience, we managed to learn from it. It helped us implement a four phase catastrophe plan we still use to this day. BBIMI is committed to giving you the best and quickest service regardless of a storm in the area or even after one. We will always be prepared.

Here are some pictures of our damage from Hurricane Wilma in 2005:
