Sports Update Monday: Dolphins Embarrass Rival Jets At Home

Category: Blog

Yesterday’s match-up between the AFC rival Miami Dolphins and New York Jets was hyped by trash-talking from both parties, but after the first quarter we saw which team all talk. Despite losing starting QB Ryan Tannehill to a knee injury in the first quarter, the Dolphins wiped the Jets in MetLife Stadium 30-9 just five weeks after the Jets beat the Dolphins in OT at Sun Life Stadium. This win put the Dolphins (4-3) into second place in the AFC East, and moved the Jets (3-5) into last place.

The Dolphins blocked a punt, a FG, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble against the struggling Jets offense, which made it easier for Dolphins back-up QB Matt Moore to run the show in Tannehill’s absence. This win was the Dolphins third in a row and they look to continue the streak on the road against the Indianapolis Colts (4-3).

Game Notes

–   Ryan Tannehill was diagnosed with a hyper-extended knee and a thigh bruise. His status for next week’s game is still unknown.

– Matt Moore was effective in his 2012 debut; he completed 11 of 19 passes attempted for 131 yards and a touchdown to Dolphins TE Anthony Fasano.

– This is the Jets second loss in a row to AFC East opponents. They look to bounce back in week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. Next weekend is their bye week.
